Adding a gallery to your theme with a section
October 13, 2026
Robin PRO adds a Robin PRO Gallery section to your theme editor. Drop it into any template, paste your gallery's ID, and the gallery shows up on your storefront. No code, nothing to paste into a page's HTML.
Before you start
Two things need to be in place:
- The Robin PRO app embed is on. The section only renders when the app embed is turned on in your current theme. If it's off, Robin PRO shows a banner with a Turn on in theme editor button. Click it, then click Save in the theme editor.
- Your theme is an Online Store 2.0 theme. All of Shopify's current free themes, like Dawn and Horizon, are. Older themes can't take app sections. If yours is one of them, use the embed code instead.
Copy the gallery ID
Open your gallery in Robin PRO, go to the Publish tab and stay on the Theme sub-tab. Click Copy next to the Gallery ID. You'll paste it into the section in a moment.
Add a gallery section to your theme
- In Robin PRO, click Open theme editor on the Theme sub-tab. Or, in your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes → Customize.
- Use the dropdown at the top of the editor to pick the template you want, for example Home page or Products → Default product.
- In the sidebar, click Add section, open the Apps tab and choose Robin PRO Gallery.
- Paste the gallery ID into the Gallery ID field.
- Drag the section to where the gallery should go, and click Save.
Until you paste an ID, the theme editor shows a hint in place of the gallery. Your visitors never see that hint. An empty section shows nothing on the live storefront.
Want two galleries on the same template? Add two sections, each with its own gallery ID.
Add a gallery to just one page
This is the part that catches most people out.
Your Shopify pages don't each have their own layout. They all share the Default page template. So if you open Pages → Default page in the theme editor and add a gallery section there, the gallery appears on every page that uses that template: your About page, your Contact page, your FAQ, all of them.
To put a gallery on one page only, give that page its own template.
1. Create a new page template
- In the theme editor, open the dropdown at the top and go to Pages.
- Click Create template.
- Give it a name that says what it's for, like
galleryorwedding-photos. Leave it based on Default page and click Create template.
The editor switches to your new template. It starts as a copy of the default one, so it already has the page title and content.
2. Add the gallery section to it
Click Add section, open the Apps tab and choose Robin PRO Gallery. Paste the gallery ID, drag the section where you want it, and click Save.
You're editing the new template only, so the rest of your pages stay as they were.
3. Assign the template to your page
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Pages and open the page.
- Find the Template dropdown on the right and pick the template you just created.
- Click Save.
Open the page on your storefront and the gallery is there. Every other page still uses Default page and looks exactly as before.
Need a gallery on another page too? Create another template for it. Or, if a few pages should show the same gallery, assign them all the same template.
When a section isn't the right fit
A section sits between your theme's other sections. It can't go in the middle of your page text. If you need that, like a gallery halfway through a blog post or inside a product description, use the embed code.
And if the gallery just needs to sit above or below a page's content, you can skip the theme editor entirely. See Publishing a gallery to a page.
Troubleshooting
The gallery shows up on all your pages. You added the section to the Default page template. Remove it from there, then follow Add a gallery to just one page.
Your new template isn't in the Template dropdown. Templates belong to a theme. Make sure you created it in your current (live) theme, not in a draft copy, and that you clicked Save.
Robin PRO Gallery isn't under Apps. Your theme may be too old for app sections. Use the embed code with a Custom liquid section instead.
The section is there but no gallery appears. Check that the Robin PRO app embed is on. Robin PRO shows a banner when it's off. Also check that the gallery ID is complete. Copy a fresh one from the Theme sub-tab if you're not sure.
You get an upgrade message instead of your photos. The free plan covers up to 12 images. Upgrading lifts the limit.
